Hello Gardeners!

The “Moon and Garden” application uses the zodiac to give you more effective advice when gardening. It is therefore important to know how to use it and which plants and fruits are ideal to plant according to the zodiac sign of the period.

What is the Zodiac?

The constellations of the zodiac have been observed by man since ancient times. During its revolution around the Earth, the Moon passes successively in front of the 12 constellations of the Zodiac. These are groups of stars of varying sizes to which men have given names such as Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. The signs and constellations of the Zodiac are indicated in the curves of the Lunar Calendar. These signs are classified according to the four elements: air, water, fire and earth.

The Air Signs :

If the Moon is in the constellation of Aquarius, Gemini, or Libra, the days will be more favorable for flowers such as dahlia, sunflower but also coliflower.

This position determines the “flower days”.

Water Signs:

If the Moon is in the constellation of Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio, the days will be more favorable for leaves and stems such as lettuce, spinach and hedge bushes.

This position determines the “leaf days”

Fire Signs:

If the Moon is in the constellation of Sagittarius, Aries, or Leo, the days will be more favorable for fruits and seeds like apples, beans, and peas.

This position determines the “fruit and seeds days”.

Earth Signs:

If the Moon is in the constellation of Capricorn, Taurus, or Virgo, the days will be more favorable for roots and bark like carrots, radishes, celery root...

This position determines the “root days”.

Hello Gardeners!

Here are some tips and recommendations for planting and keeping our garden beautiful and alive throughout the summer months.

How often should I water in hot weather?

You don’t have to water more when the temperatures are much higher. But there are a few things you can do to keep your plants from burning out. First, continue to water every day, preferably at the end of the day, around 6 p.m., when the sun is less present. This avoids the risk of burning the foliage of the plants. If watering is done in the middle of the day, the drops of water will form a magnifying glass effect and concentrate the sun’s rays, which would damage your plants. Remember that plants in hanging pots need more water than plants in the ground.

How to water your garden in hot weather?

It is advisable to use rainwater to water your plants. This type of water is excellent for plants because it is free of limescale and remains at room temperature. Do not forget to hydrate the base of the plants.

Watch out for weeds

Especially in summer, weeds tend to appear in large numbers. It is therefore important to pull these weeds as soon as you see them, because they grow very quickly.

It is also much easier to remove them when they are small, because as they grow, some of them develop huge roots and cling powerfully to the ground.

Choosing the right plants for your summer garden

Choosing the right plants will determine the success and beauty of your garden.

It is best to choose plants that do not require much shade and moisture. There are many choices of plants that require little watering, for example: verbena, cactus, geranium, lavender, agave…

In addition, to add a touch of color to your summer garden, choose varieties of plants that bloom at this time of year such as: the great daisy, the campanula, the geranium rozanne, the anthemis, the achillea …

Beware of parasites

This is, of course, something we should do all year round. However, summer is a favorite season for some pests and we need to pay special attention to them.

As with weeds, it is essential to act as soon as possible and not let the pest spread.

The summer period is very important for our garden, and we must redouble our attention, because of the heat and lack of rain.

We will share with you in a future article our tips to fight ecologically against these pests.

The tuber needs sun and warmth to grow. This is the ideal season to plant them. In only 90 days, they grow abundantly. This vegetable contains a lot of fiber, vitamins B, A, C and minerals such as potassium and magnesium, which help prevent certain diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart attacks. During the warmer months, they grow faster, so be careful not to let them bolt before picking them to eat. When planting, try to leave about 20 cm between each plant. Hello Gardeners!

You may have seen in the application the terms waxing and waning moon. What does it mean? Which seeds, plants, fruits or vegetables are the most ideal for gardening during the waxing and waning moon?

Waxing moon

The waxing moon is the first appearance of the moon in the sky, two days after the new moon. This second phase of the moon can be observed during most of the day and a little at night, once the sun has set. This phase of the moon is the best time to sow anything that requires a long germination time, as the soil is very fertile. It is the best time to sow all plants that grow tall and bear fruit, such as tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins, beans, watermelons, peas, beans, etc.

Waning moon

Each day, the bright surface of the Moon decreases and the light it reflects decreases until it becomes dark. During its waning period, the moon is favorable for plants like lettuce, radish, turnip, carrot, cabbage…. This is the time to plant because the roots will start growing again more quickly or to fertilize because the fertilizers will be better assimilated.

How to identify a waxing and waning moon?

When you look at the moon in the northern hemisphere sky, you can tell with the naked eye if it is waxing or waning. When the bright part of the Moon forms a semicircle in the shape of a “D”, it is an increasing Moon. Conversely, the Moon is waning when the luminous half-circle draws the letter “C”.

In the southern hemisphere, it is seen inverted (i.e. D decreasing and C increasing). In the equatorial zone, it is seen rather lying down.

Hello Gardeners!

The “Moon and Garden” app is the only existing app to date that helps you garden efficiently using biodynamics and the lunar calendar. The app was created in 2014 in France. The legend says that the French creator created it for his friend who is passionate about gardening and the lunar calendar. During a pleasant conversation, the creator told his friend about his new idea to create this app. His friend was very happy and told him that it was a great idea, because such an application did not exist yet and his gardening friends would be very happy to use it. They both chose the name, which was originally “Lune et Jardin”.

Since its launch, it has received a great response from you all and has been downloaded over 900,000 times in Android and IOS.

A community has been formed at Moon and Garden that shares the values of biodynamic, ecological agriculture and a concern for protecting the planet we live on. The community shares an interest in using the lunar calendar and astrological signs.

Since its creation, the application has been constantly improving to give the best to its community with new features.

What did you think of the story and how long have you been a member of the Moon and Garden community? What message would you send to the creator of the app if he was reading you?
